Long Beach Pinball League is a fun and accessible pinball league open to all levels of players. We are sanctioned by the International Flippered Pinball Association and so whether you are a beginning competitor or a seasoned veteran player, you can gain points and improve your standings among the world pinball community. Simply register here and show up ready to play and we’ll take care of the rest.
THE BASIC RUNDOWN
It’s easy – simply show up – and you will play 5 games in what is called a “Group Matchplay” format. For the first game you will be randomly assigned to a game with 2 or 3 other players. Whoever comes in last gets to pick the next game, or player order, and the second-to-last-player gets the option they didn’t pick. Third-to-last gets an option to pick their order from the remaining spots. For each game you play you are assigned points depending on where you place. This all gets tracked throughout the season and culminates in a exciting final tournament.
WHAT IF I MISS A MEETING?
We know 6 meetings is a lot for some people – that’s why the league only counts the best of 4 meetings – and you need to at least make 3 to qualify for Division 1 finals, and/or have your results reported to the IFPA. (Everyone may play in Division 2 regardless of attendance)

WHAT IS THE IFPA ANYWAY?
The International Flipper Pinball Association (IFPA) is the governing body for competitive pinball. Anyone can begin ranking among the best pinball players in the world by participating in IFPA events. Our league follows all the guidelines set forth by the IFPA in order to qualify as an IFPA sanctioned league.

WHAT DOES THE LEAGUE FEE COVER?
100% of your contribution goes back into league expenses. You must pay for your own games (coin-drop) and refreshments.

ADDITIONAL DETAILS
All of our tournaments and leagues are run according to the PAPA Competition Rules and can be found here.
Some additional specific rules we follow in-house are as follows:
- We are using MatchPlay events.
- There will probably be 12 machines in use. Machines used TBD tournament day.
- In each round each group will play a single game on a randomly selected machine.
- No extra balls will be played (Ball Saves OK) Plunge extra balls for minor points.
- In the event of a major malfunction of a machine the remaining game in the round will be played on a randomly chosen game.
- If a player plays the wrong ball that game is forfeited, as with any player interference, this includes accidentally tilting another’s player’s ball if it is stuck.
- If a ball is stuck, try to gently dislodge it and/or allow the ball search to make 3 attempts. If it is still stuck every effort will be made to unstick the ball by the Official and cradled in a flipper. If that is not possible, or the game tilts trying to dislodge it (see major malfunction), the game may need to be restarted.
